讲座简介

Understanding the retention of former entrepreneurs—those who were previously founders of business ventures—is important in many hiring firms, as it holds the key to successfully reaping the benefits of entrepreneurial human capital in alternative settings or employments. Prior research has exclusively focused on former entrepreneurs’ re-entry into entrepreneurship, whereas little is known about their employment in established firms and their likelihood of quitting compared to the regular workforce. In this study, we take a career lens to examine how entrepreneurial identity that was formed through past experience may continue to guide individual behavior even after they become salaried employee. As a result, we posit that the employees’ entrepreneurial past and associated entrepreneurship identity increase their subsequent likelihood of quitting. Support for our arguments comes from two samples: firsthand survey data from multiple firms in two research parks (Study 1) and a longitudinal sample matched between two public datasets, NLSY79 and O*Net (Study 2). In Study 2, we further illuminate how job design in established firms mitigates the identity activation of former entrepreneurs and its impact on voluntary turnover. The findings deepen our understanding of the dynamic nature of an entrepreneurial career and offer implications for firms endeavoring to retain entrepreneurial talent.

主讲人简介

冯婕(Jie Jasmine Feng),美国新泽西州立罗格斯大学人力资源管理系助理教授,于威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校商学院获得博士学位,主要研究兴趣包括员工离职、薪酬以及创业行为。她的研究成果发表在Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Business Ethics, Asian Pacific Journal of Management等国际顶级期刊上,曾获美国管理学会最佳论文奖,成果被哈佛商业评论、Daily Stat、 Inc.、WorldatWork Magazine、NBC News、Business News Daily等知名媒体引用。
